    Steering

Does anyone know how to tighten up the steering on a 79 CJ-5 with power steering? We just put in a new gear box, but the steering is really loose?

    Transmission?

I would buy it, but Pennsylvania is a long way from Oklahoma. What should I expect to pay from a salvage yard? Is a salvage yard the right place to look?

    Transmission?

Yes, it feels just like normal when shifting in and out of all gears, but there isn't any output other than third gear.

    Transmission?

Okay, the CJ had its maiden voyage today since the complete rebuild. Well, everything was rebuilt but the 3 speed transmission. We made it about 15 minutes away, before all of the gears except thrid quit working. You could still shift into the gears, but no power at all. The clutch is new...

    Tach

RING&PINION Problems Yes they do have metal dashes, but they don't ground using the dash because the housing is plastic. I know that a 12 gauge wire sounds really big but I promise that is what is on there. I guess I need to be more specific about my question. Can the two identical wires be...

    Tach

Does anyone know how to wire a factory tach that has two 10-12 gauge wires that are both red. Neither one has a stripe on it. Can it be hooked up backwards? I have the wiring from the coil, but I just don't know how to attach it to the tach. '79 CJ-5. Thanks Zac

    roller rocker problems

Okay, since we can't take the engine back to them without pulling it, the guy asked to see the pushrods for the intake and exaust valves for the bad cylinder. To me they looked the same length, but he measured them and said that one of them was wrong. We had to get the part from the west coast...

    roller rocker problems

Thanks guys, we took the rocker arms and pushrods back to the machine shop (Trying not to pull the engine again). If they can't find anything wrong then well have to pull the head and re-install the cam and lifters. Thanks for all of your help.

    roller rocker problems

What do you mean? Would the cam literally fail on startup? Unfortunately the engine was rebuilt 18 months ago, but never started or installed until recently. It had a one year waranty, so the shop won't fix it. How much are new lifters? Can you just buy one?

    Transmission spade plug?

4wd If anyone can find out for sure, I have the same question. Also, if anyone knows where to find replacements for them, please let me know. Mine are damaged. Zac

    roller rocker problems

I don't know if they are new or used. I would assume that they would put new lifters in a newly rebuilt engine, but you know what they say about assuming things. I think they are hydraulic because the rocker arms don't adjust like on a 350, or at least I don't know how to do it. Is there any...

    roller rocker problems

Okay, here is the deal. Our "rebuilt" 258 seems to have a problem. One of the rocker arms is really loose. It rattles really bad and I'm not sure how to fix it. The nut on the top isn't loose, and the pushrods are all the same length, so I don't know what to do. The rocker is on the second...

    The next question is...

Thank you to all of you who have chimed in on my latest jeep problems. To those interested, I have a few more. Here is the run-down. Freshly rebuilt engine, new or rebuilt holley carb (2 barrel). We installed all of these things at the same time. We first tried to start it the other day...

    Axle Problems?

Okay Jeep gurus, here is the problem that has me stumped. We have a '79 CJ-5 that we have been rebuilding for a while. When the Jeep last drove, it seemed to work fine, but the compression was bad so we decided to put in a rebuilt engine. Well along with that we also replaced all of the...

    CJ-5 Neutral safety switch wiring

Nevermind. I figured out that it didn't have a neutral safety switch this morning. The wiring kit that I bought is labeled for a safety switch, so I just bypassed where the switch would be. Now it cranks. It hasn't started yet. Thanks again for your help. Zac
