Does anyone know how to tighten up the steering on a 79 CJ-5 with power steering? We just put in a new gear box, but the steering is really loose?

I would buy it, but Pennsylvania is a long way from Oklahoma. What should I expect to pay from a salvage yard? Is a salvage yard the right place to look?

Yes, it feels just like normal when shifting in and out of all gears, but there isn't any output other than third gear.

Does anyone know how to wire a factory tach that has two 10-12 gauge wires that are both red. Neither one has a stripe on it. Can it be hooked up backwards? I have the wiring from the coil, but I just don't know how to attach it to the tach. '79 CJ-5. Thanks Zac

Okay, since we can't take the engine back to them without pulling it, the guy asked to see the pushrods for the intake and exaust valves for the bad cylinder. To me they looked the same length, but he measured them and said that one of them was wrong. We had to get the part from the west coast...

Thanks guys, we took the rocker arms and pushrods back to the machine shop (Trying not to pull the engine again). If they can't find anything wrong then well have to pull the head and re-install the cam and lifters. Thanks for all of your help.

What do you mean? Would the cam literally fail on startup? Unfortunately the engine was rebuilt 18 months ago, but never started or installed until recently. It had a one year waranty, so the shop won't fix it. How much are new lifters? Can you just buy one?

I don't know if they are new or used. I would assume that they would put new lifters in a newly rebuilt engine, but you know what they say about assuming things. I think they are hydraulic because the rocker arms don't adjust like on a 350, or at least I don't know how to do it. Is there any...

Nevermind. I figured out that it didn't have a neutral safety switch this morning. The wiring kit that I bought is labeled for a safety switch, so I just bypassed where the switch would be. Now it cranks. It hasn't started yet. Thanks again for your help. Zac
