    Tire Pressure

I would start out with 28 and do the chalk test or see how they wear and adjust accordingly.

    Upgrading tires

265/70-16's are about the same as a 31x10.50. If you're still worried then use a 255/70-16, lots of selection there because it was the stock size on Explorers which they made about 10 million of.

Correct brand for battery, plugs, etc

OE plugs were most likely Champion. Most OE plug wires at that time were made by Packard (except Fords). Google some pics of new 1973 Jeeps and see what color the plug wires were. Probably black, so just look for a replacement wire set that is black.

    oil filters

A Fram won't necessarily blow up your engine but there are better quality filters for the same money (Mopar, Purolator) or less (Wal-Mart Supertech). You have to step up to the Fram ToughGuard to get a decent filter from them but then your spending more than other good filters cost. There is an...

doors are suppose to come off!

Ours has the full steel doors. I put a piece of door edge guard along the bottom of each door so they don't get scratched when I set them down. I mean hey, I spent two grand on a paint job last year. Also instead of the fancy and pricey rearview mirrors for use when the doors are removed, I...

    What oil to use?

True. I use Wix filters on the Jeep. I change the oil every 3000 miles, probably too often but my daughter is in college and does not put on a lot of miles, so that ends up being twice a year at most.

    What oil to use?

Jeep engines tend to throw off a lot of iron (in ppm, based on used oil analysis). Also older flat tappet engines are not entirely happy with newer oils that contain less zinc. If you live in a warm climate I would recommend a diesel-spec 15w-40 oil. In our Jeep I have Shell Rotella T5 10w-30...

    Hot!!!

Even here in PA it's been over 90* every day for a month. I don't mind it. You don't have to shovel heat and humidity.

Automakers Agree to 55 MPG average fleet fuel economy by 2025

I'd be surprised if it ever comes to pass. They can make cars that get 56 mpg but they're not anything that Americans would want or even be able to squeeze their fat butts into.

    97-02 TJ Soft Top

Soft top from our 97 TJ. Spice color, nothing wrong with it other than some of the threads fraying near the front corners. I'm picky and got a new one. Clear windows. No half doors since our Jeep has full doors. Has never leaked on our Jeep but I make no guarantees. No name on it, appears...

    Oil question

Low-zinc oils are meant to keep from contaminating catalytic converters, which your '72 Jeep would not have anyway. Zinc however is good to run on older flat tappet engines. Mobil 1, in my opinion, is somewhat thin for older engines (yeah, I know oil weight is oil weight but there is a range...

    Can't find decent wiper blades

I got a pair of Sure Wipes from 4wd Hardware, they work well. Agree, I think the tension is the problem more than the blades themselves. For the glass, since it is fairly upright it's going to catch a lot of bugs even with a Bugflector (I have one). Scrub the glass with Bon Ami cleanser, it...

    Exhaust Question

Couple guys on the Sport Trac board (my other rig is a Sport Trac) run the Heartthrob because it is the only dual-out system made for '01-'05 Tracs. I don't hear any complaints.

    Opinions on this '97 wrangler?

I couldn't find a decent used hardtop locally and new aftermarket units are pricey so a few weeks ago I got Bestop's top-of-the-line sailcloth top. Much quieter than the original. They also make a snap-in headliner that I will get later for the winter, costs about $100. At least the heaters...

    Opinions on this '97 wrangler?

Ours is a '97 4 banger automatic, probably the cheapest Jeep because it is the least desireable combination. Used car lot was asking $4500, my mechanic found a couple issues so they dropped it to $4200, and they had already had the head rebuilt. Body was clean and original except for some rust...
