My two cents here is basically, check all your wires in the ignition system. Kinda sounds like to me you are grounding it out with water. I've got a old quad, that the kill switch grounds out the spark rather then letting it get to the spark plug. But that is a stab in the dark.

I really don't have any ideas. But I know with aircrafts, they are usually not twelve volt systems. I don't know if you know what type of aircraft they came off of, but even most of the smaller planes and jets are 28 volt systems. thats my two cents
