Hard starting and over heating CJ

I have the 360 in mine, and my best GUESS is that the starter, wires etc are getting hot being shoehorned in the engine bay. I have to wait for temp to get back to 200 before it will fire. Starts on the first click of the key when cold. I run at 190-200 consistently whether wheeling or highway...

    Ford 302 to a T-176

Saddle Tramp, it is mated to a AMC 360 right now. I will have to verify shaft length once the 302 is complete and ready to install. Until that time I am thrashing the 360 as it will get an overhaul when it comes out, then to find the next CJ to drop it in

    Jeep overheats when idle

Could also be water jackets if too much rust/sludge is built up. X2 on fan or water pump. Doubt it is thermostat, would overheat constantly.

WOOT! finally have some forward motion

Can't tell you what you will need, but I have the 33X12.5X15 Pro Comp mud terrains, I will not buy them again. They are great for the mud/dirt/etc. Quiet on the road too, but they will not balance. Had them done several times and appears only way to get them done is to cut them.

    5.0 Swap

superj. I will keep you updated. Background on the 302, we have had it for about 6 years. took the first 2 to build it, the third year to blow it up, and it has been sitting on the motor stand since. My 360 is starting to make some weird noises so the 302 has been brought out of retirement. What...

    5.0 Swap

Good afternoon to all, I have not had a need to post for a while until now. My son and I are starting a new engine build. We are going to "refurbish" the 302 that has been patiently waiting for some attention. The block goes in next week for a bake, magnaflux, new freeze plugs, cam bearings, and...

    Hobbies.

Let's see, first is the Jeep (when funds are available), second would be the x-box COD MW2, and Black Ops. Third would be the engine on the stand in the garage, wanna build a pro street ranger (way off in the future, mama is not too keen on that idea). Then spending time with the family ( this...

NEED JEEP EXPERT ADVISE/WISDOM PLEASE HELP. diagnose my problem please!!!

unless you have oil leaking from the pan there is no reason to replace it. I would change the oil, filter, and check the old oil for any milky looks. If the old oil is milky there is a good possibility you warped the head, blew a head gasket etc. The milky substance comes from water in the oil...

    Dylan's TJ Build

Dylan, My recommendation to you would be to sit and take some time to figure out exactly what you want your Jeep to do, daily driver, off road, rocks, mud. Depending on what you decide, then start looking at lifts, tires, etc. to meet your goals. IMHO, If my Jeep was not already lifted when we...

    Dylan's TJ Build

STAY AWAY from body lifts over 1.5". In the event of an accident there is an exponential possibility of shearing the bolts or bending them. It may take a while but find what you want and save for it.

    A/c

Not sure where your from, I am in Orlando Fl and it gets a tad bit warm in the summer. When it gets real warm I drive faster or take the doors off. I don't believe you will find an under dash unit much cheaper, remember you will get what you pay for. Good Luck.

I enjoy it immensely. My son and I started working on vehicles when he was about 12, So far we have replaced the entire suspension on the father in laws 65 Mustang convertible, freshened his motor up, replaced all the chrome. Then he and I built our Bronco ( then dad blew it up) now we have the...

Looks can be deceiving, but thanks. There is alot of work left to be done to correct the f*** ups from the PO. I have rewired most of the under dash, replaced most of the brake hardware. Right now I am determining whether I want to tackle the engine leaks, or fix the seats. Front and rear main...

    oil pressure without engine running.

X2 with what Jester says. You could also try a mechanical gauge if you happen to have one. That will give you an immediate answer to is it a real problem or a bad sending unit/pinched/shorted wire(s).

Few questions I hope you all can answer

I agree with verifying ALL of the grounds are clean, and connected to a CLEAN ground spot. I would not worry about the ticking, as stated above sounds like heat shields/exhaust cooling.
