03 TJ Headlights

Last night while driving home,I used my high beams, but when I went to switch back to low beams,it didn't happen.A few minutes later,my headlights started cutting on and off.I used my KC Daylighters to get me home.Today I looked into it,and upon looking at the switch,I found that the plug is pretty melted. What would cause this?I plan to replace the multi switch, and hope I can find a pigtail in the salvage yard to replace my plug by splicing and soldering it to my harness.Has anyone else had this issue? My turn signals,flash-to-pass lights, and factory fog lights still work, but I have no headlights at all.

This happens because the current to your lights goes through the switch. At 55W lights that could be as much as 9.2A.

Some have added a separate relay to run high beams and another from low beams. They use the switch for the trigger or switch on the relay. They power the relay to headlights from the battery.

I'm pretty handy with relays, and I can incorporate them into the wiring after I get it back to good.I am just curious to see if anyone else has had this type of meltdown.
