1920 Holley Carb on the M715

Ive got a 1967 M715; it’s the Military version of the Jeep Gladiator. It has a Straight 6, 230, with an overhead cam. The Carb is a 1 barrel 1920 Holley with a 5psi fuel pressure regulator on it. Every 5-6 months I have problems with the Needle Valve. Right now the Needle valve keeps getting stuck shut, even thought is totally clean. Someone told me I could change out the Carb to a 2-barrel carb from a FSJ along with its manifold. Dose anybody know where I can pick one up, that will fit the 230. Don’t care if is old or new, I just want the truck to run.
Thanks, Captain Jack

There is probably very fine grit in the fuel (rust from the tank or even just alcohol laced fuel) causing the needle to stick to the seat (either open or closed) I add a see through filter and a sediment bowl before my fuel pump and a see through super fine (one for EFI works well) one after so the carb isn't affected. Adding Lucas fuel treatment adds some lube to the fuel (I have to do that every 5th tank in my '82 AMC Spirit daily driver with 258 )
Aside from that, I don't know of a 2bbl intake for the 230, but you could make a stock one 2bbl with either machining another spare one or putting on an adapter plate (one is made for Ford inline 6 cyls, such as the '66 Mustang 200 motor)

Also check out the M715zone

Nice Jeep!! If you can find a Gross Jet for the carb that might help. I have installed them in several vehicles and they worked out really well. The Gross Jet replaces the inlet needle and seat with a ball-on-ball valve. They don't leak nearly as much as the old needle valves do. If you leave the truck sitting for a long time it might still stick, though. I looked on the net and it looks like they are still being made but I don't see where to get them. You might see if the guy still advertises in Hemmings. Best of luck - John
