2.5L Knocking/Valve Lash??

i have a little tick in my engine to me it sounds like valve lash.. is the valves preset in this engine or can they be adjusted?? 2.5L 4cyl 99 tj

They can not be adjusted.

Have you checked for an exhaust leak? Check the forward most and rear most exhaust manifold stud to see if they're still there, they commonly break on most 2.5L engines.

it is not exhaust leak it is a small knock in my motor i got up in under and put my ear to the base pan and everything sounds fine i used a piece of pipe for a stehocope and it seems to me as valve lash..

Add a 1/2 to 3/4 qt of ATF to the engine and see if that doesn't quiet down the offending lifter.

i am not a fan of putting transmission fluid in my engine i did it in the future and dont like it.. do any one know the valve lash or my intake and exhaust valves so i can check it myself to see how much they are out

What didn't you like? My mechanic does it on his personal vehicles and I completely trust his advice. The valve lash is not adjustable.

Keep in mind the 2.5L is an inherently noisy engine, but the way. And the ATF works; many of us have used that trick.
