2wd to 4wd?

Hi everyone. Im new to the Jeep world. (first one , bought today) Can i swap 4wd front axle, tcase, and driveshafts into a 2wd 5speed jeep cherokee? what do i need to do to the 5 speed?

You would need to replace the transmission for a 4wd model.

It can all be done, but it would be a lot easier if you could find a cheap (maybe even wrecked or high mileage) XJ and swap all the 4wd parts over to yours. It's pretty much a bolt-in but for cutting the hole for the transfer case shifter. There are dimples in the tub where the shifter bolts go.

so when i get a donor jeep, just swap everything over? The frame and the control arms are the same? will wrangler 5 speed 4wd trans work?

The Wrangler transmission will work but you will likely have to cut or hammer the tub upward to clear the transfer case. The Wrangler transmission clocks the transfer case up higher, the XJ is clocked lower to clear the body.
