I've got an 87 yj with an ax5 transmission with a four popper in it. I'm just wondering if they make an adapter to hook a 6 cylinder to it so I don't have to replace the whole drivetrain.
There's no adapter, and the AX5 will not hold up behind 6cyl power.
You need to cut the motor mount perches from the frame in order to install the 6cyl, so keeping the AX5 transmission is the least of your worries. It's best to swap in an entire drivetrain to avoid the use and expense of adapters.
Thanks. I don't have alot of money. Divorced dad. Lol. Even though it's not with it I'll probably just rebuild the 4 banger and do lil things to gain some power.
