89 Automatic 4x4 Cherokee dies @ stop in Drive position

It's really weird, my Cherokee dies almost everytime I stop, but only in Drive. In Reverse it's working fine. It idles just fine, but when I put it in Drive, it tries to die. I have to take off right away to keep it from dying.

When my 87 started acting like that, it was usually a tune up thing. Distributor cap was growing, green or white stuff in there or just worn. Sometimes paritally clogged injectors (a gas tanf additive injector cleaner usually helped). My spark plugs seemed to last forever though. Isn´t a bad idea to check the air filter, they have a habit of becoming oil soaked.

And every so often, the EGR valve would stick causing stalling at stop lights or when slowing for a corner. Also made for a bad idle.

The vacumn lines became clogged on occasion, and I have had a couple worn through from rubbing, that would cause various problems.

A few easy things to check, but the possibilities are numerous. An occasional high speed run up the autobahn usually helped also.[addsig]
