95 yj oils.. Help?

80w90 in the diffs and trany. ATF is for Automatics.

Older manual transmissions call for gear oil. Newer ones use ATF. Our 97 is an automatic but the owners manual specifies ATF for both automatic and manual transmissions as well as the transfer case. I'm not sure what a 95 calls for in the transmission but don't be surprised if it's ATF.

WOW, learn something every day. Wonder why they did that and didnt just stay with the gear oil.
My 69 jeep uses ATF for the power steering instead of steering fluid.

No way...there isnt a manual trans in a YJ that is supposed to have ATF in it. The Aisin transmissions...AX15 in a 6cyl, and AX5 in a 4cyl, from 90-95 take 75w90 as the choice lube. Some guys run 80w90 because its in the axles, and just easier to keep 1 grade of gear oil on hand.
The T-case runs ATF as well as the autos, but not in the manuals in a YJ.
Maybe in the newer Wranglers, I dont have a lot of knowledge on them. If it says to run ATF in you manual, thats a misprint.

What about the 2.8L i4? The guy I bought the yj off said he did the swap... Is there a stamp on the engine anywhere I could double check that?

I got to agree with kevin, ive never heard of putting ATF in a manual trans. The new tranies may be different and im always up to learning new things. Let us know what you find out. As to the year of your engine, If you google the VIN number, I think it will give you the year.

Are you talking the VIN of the jeep or is there one on the engine as well?
