97 Jeep Transmission

I have a 97 Jeep Wrangler Manual 2.5l. I have used the jeep for commuting 10 minutes to work and back for the last 5 years. 2 days ago I started to use it for other reasons, all local driving and after 60-90 minutes it starts to feel like I am towing a house. At one point I had to pull over, it seemed like it was gonna freeze. I let it cool down for about an hr and was able to drive another hr no problem. The same thing happened the next day but this time when I would stop it would make a creaking noise like an old door. After an hour I was able to drive fine. Any input help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Lou

Engine is getting hot or the trans? I'd say start by checking fluids in whatever is the issue area.

What leads you to believe it's the transmission?

A bad catalytic converter will heat up and the catalyst will expand, choking the engine until it eventually dies. Time to cool and the engine will run fine until the converter heats back up.

So if it is a bad converter it could make it feel like I am pulling a house? I would get up to second gear and then it would feel like the brakes were on, that is when I pulled over. When I did open the hood it was pretty hot (hood, hood stand, etc) The transmission I was just guessing. :???:
