I hear some screaching noise coming from my front end. It's only when the tires are in motion. It just started today. Seems to get worse as I go faster. But after a certain speed it quites down. I raised the front side up and spun the tires and I can hear the noise coming from both sides. I'm pretty sure its the joints for the hub or the wheel bearings what do you guys think?

By the way I have a 97 tj 4 cylinder ax-5 trans

Wheel bearings or is the axles tubes filled with mud. How about the brakes. Is the pad squealer touching the rotor or is the backing plate hitting the rotor. A few other things to check

No brakes do a bit but this was different. I just disconnected the front drive shaft and no noise at all...

Ok so its one of the many u joints for the front drive shaft. It's not the front but its the u joints towards the t case. I sprayed it down and now no.noise so i think it was just mud. Not sure if it will come back or not. But does anyone know what the part is called?

That's the cardon joint. Kinda a pain to replace. I do both rear joints while its apart. If possible get a greasable one.

Where can I get it? Can I rebuild mine? I took it for a ride and no noise after I cleaned it out

Yup just have to go to any driveline shop. They should have in stock.

I carry 2 spares with me. With u joints it was 140 bucks and everything was spicer

They said it would be around 187 to rebuild mine. It's just 2 u joints and a center ball correct? What's the chances I can rebuild my self for significantly cheaper

If your good with needle bearings and patient probably 100. Bucks. It's quite the chore. The ball has a pin with a bunch of needle bearing to so that's trick to line everything up and pound in u joints. It's possible. Done it on the trail a few times

Assemble the drive shaft end first. Use lots of grease to hold everything in place

Would napa sell all this parts. What parts and materials would I need? Any write ups for this?

Napa may sell them. I work at a dealer so I get everything brought in. I'm sure there's a write up somewhere. I've never searched it though

Yes they did but real expensive. And there not regreasable either. I had the shaft off and inspecting it the dust cover for the ball is destroyed

Ya. They are a little pricey. My cost was 70.97 each Canadian. A new shaft from Chrysler is about 480 bucks so the rebuild doesn't look so bad lol

Ya there is a shop a ways from me that will rebuild it for 140 us. So I will take it to them, ill also get the peace of mind that it was greased correctly and he is gona install all greasable parts
