'99 Wrangler Question

I have a 99 Wrangler with 124,000 miles on it and the engine just went. I am trying to figure out what to do with it. I have to mechanics who have told me they cannot find an engine for it so would have to rebuild and that is pricy. Any thoughts?

I've never heard somebody say they couldn't find a 2.5 or a 4.0, They're pretty easy to come by. My brother picked a 4.0 the other day for is XJ.

Thanks. I will look into these. As far as how it went, I guess the rod bearings broke, but it was something more because - it only starting making a noise one night and then I had it checked out the next morning and they said it was shot no repairing it, but drive it until it dies and it died that day.

it was low on oil, huh? thats what gives you the trouble you have.

i know this from multiple unintentional testings of low oil usage

Nothing to be afraid of, it’s just nuts and bolts really. (hee hee) All kidding aside there is a few things involved of course other than turning nuts and bolts but in the long run you probably should or may want to at least know how to do this; to me it is part of the fun. It is best to have a place out of the weather of course and I know apartment managers can get a little pi$$y about doing the job in the parking lot but if you have or have a friend that has a garage a novice should be able to swap an I6 over a weekend. One of the keys is to try and have all the parts needed to do the job in hand before you start; a manual or two, degreaser, clutch parts, new mounts if needed, pilot bushing, Loctite, maybe a new water pump, etc. If you don’t have a lift one can be rented. A buddy is most helpful too. Just be mindful of safety as a motor falling on your hand, foot, or head can take the fun out of the day.

im thinkin some day i might take out my I6 and swap a 5.7L hemi or whatever will fit into it, its a 2wd an im not planning on destroying it, i want to make it a nice show car/mud toy

Look to the Cherokee's for good donor engines, just use the accessory setup from the front of your Wrangler engine.
