I have a 2007 JK and had a factory bumper with fog lamps replaced with an after market bumper. I just bought a set of hella 500 and wired them into the factory wiring. I could not get them to work and am wondering if I have to use an after market relay and switch. I was under the impression that the factory wiring, relay, and switch would work. Any advice wold really help thanks!:?|Oh yea great site!!

should not have to. make sure that you are getting 12 volts to the light pigtail when on and make sure your ground is good.

8)How it Works:FRONT FOG LAMPS(JK Models)
The front fog lamps have a path to ground at all times through their connection to the engine compartment wire harness. The engine compartment wire harness has takeouts with eyelet terminals that are secured by nuts to ground studs on the front end sheet metal within the engine compartment. The Steering Control Module (SCM) monitors a hard wired multiplex input from the left multi-function switch to determine whether the fog lamps are selected, then sends an electronic front fog lamp switch status message to the EMIC over the Local Interface Network (LIN) data bus and the EMIC relays an electronic front fog lamp request message to the TIPM over the CAN data bus.

When the TIPM receives a front fog lamp request message it then controls front fog lamp operation by controlling a battery voltage output through high side drivers on right and left fog lamp feed circuits. The TIPM also sends the appropriate electronic message back to the EMIC to illuminate or extinguish the front fog lamp indicator. In certain markets where required, the TIPM will automatically de-energize the front fog lamps any time the headlamp high beams are selected.

The TIPM also provides a battery saver (load shedding) feature for the front fog lamps, which will turn these lamps OFF if they are left ON for more than about eight minutes with the ignition switch in the LOCK position, if there is a charging system failure, or if the electrical system voltage falls below about 11.75 volts for more than about 30 seconds. The TIPM will return the front fog lamps to normal operation when it detects that system voltage is greater than 13.0 volts for more than about 30 seconds

ok...in english:?| ;)

My Bad Utah:givemebeer:.lol. In other words, I'ts a bit more complicated on a JK fog lamps or any electronics in a JK on how it works since there is communications involved in the process of turning any electronics on and off. if there was an error in installing the wires in the fog lamp, the TIPM(Fuse Box Under the Hood)will detect a fault in the circuit and Turns off that whole circuit till the module no longer detects the fault. in some cases, a Scantool is required to reset that module to get the circuit back on. Just make sure you got your Grounds and positive on the right order. there are some aftermarket lamps out there that has the one side of the lamp grounded to the body and a single wire coming out of the base.

Him say that the Computer box thing controls the fog lights... uggg. Great white father do much thinking and makum box to control camp fire under clear shiny rock. If Magic box seeum lights on for more then it takes to wind a Pony running at full speed it will put out the camp fires, also if the lightning box that runs the magic camp fires gets low on tickle juice it will also turn off magic camp fires after the time it take for an arrow to fall from the sky.

Crazy white man thinkum you need to check your magic ropes to make sure you have a good ground and makum sure that the magic box is keeping magic campfires burning. Does Magic Rope with shiny metal in them have tickle juice running in them to make magic campfires burn?

Disclamer: OK so it is friday and I got a Xmas bonus... Just in that kind of mood.

have a great weekend everyone

It must be Pick on Mikey Day. Thank God its Friday!:party:

thanks for all the input. I read the owners man and it said all that mumbo jumbo but when i call the dealer to ask about a reset they are clueless. What happend to just connecting wires and watching it work? thanks again

I'll see if i can find a Guinee Pig Jeep to try this issue. in the mean time keep us posted. i just got to find an unsuspecting jk owner to mess with his electrical. hehehe.

Alrighty Peejs, i got a hold of an 08 JK and disconnected the fog lamp connectors on the left and right side. i removed the 130w hella lamps on my jeep and used a temporary terminal pins to wire it up to the JK. It works. so, with this as a verification, the white/orange wire on the right lamp, white/yellow wire on the left lamp are the power signal and the black on both sides are the Ground.

And that's what's so awesome about this site! haha

dude whats amazing is that you found a JK to do this and still had an afternoon and some time to post. Thanks. I think maybe the beer was doing the wiring and I was just the vessle

I always have my Laptop on at Work with several windows open at all times so i can multitask. Everytime i leave my chair to check on a Sick Vehicle, i make it a point to check for new posts on this site when i sit back down. it keeps me busy all day. inspite of the stress here at work, I enjoy Doing this. There is a lot of Good guys and Ladies here who are very knowlegable of the subjects that are carefully scrutinized to reach a valid answer to a problem.p0p
