Anyone have an alarm system with a motion sensor installed?

I recently got an alarm system installed in my jeep to hopefully prevent it from being stolen again. I got a proximity sensor (motion sensor) installed and am having major problems with it triggering the alarm all the time. I've been told by the shop that temperature changes outside will triger a motion sensor. The motion sensors use radar. I was just wondering if anyone out there has an alarm with a motion sensor installed, if they've had any problems and if not, what kind of alarm is it. The one I had installed is a Preditor which is made by the old engineers of Clifford who started their own company when Clifford was bought out by Viper. The shop I'm dealing with is willing to install a different kind of alarm that they sell. I'm considering the Alpine which comes with a motion sensor as part of the package. The only reason I have the motion sensor is to protect my stereo when I have my soft top on. A regular alarm without a motion sensor is usless because they can just unzip the windows and climb in and take the stereo. Any other suggestions? [addsig]

I have a K-9 alarm installed on my car with a motion sensor and it seemed to act up sometimes so I had it adjusted down a little. The interior range doesn't go all the way to the doors, it goes about half out on the seats but I figure I dont have anything out that far all I am trying to protect is teh cd player and center console and stuff. The only problem I have now is when there is a big thunderstorm the thunder sometimes sets it off, but it is rare.
hope this helps

There is different kinds of proximity sensors, radio, heat (IR), radar was one of the first types (old stuff). I have an IR in my pickup, the sensor is directional, after the cat, hail, rain and such setting it off often, I relocated the sensor, to the middle of the roof pointing down. Reduced my false alarms to almost nothing.
In the YJ, I installed a switch under each front seat. Anything worth stealing, is in the dash or console. In the back I have a lock box, that is pretty sturdy (old 20MM ammo can).[addsig]

I was an installer for years and have had Proxy sensors in both my jeeps. Go back to where you bought or had the unit installed and tell them that you want the sensor turned down and that you want the "warn away" option hooked up. 90% of the alarms I delt with have what is called a warn away option and a instant trigger option (Black widow, black eagle, code alarm any DEI product like viper, sidewinder, avital, clifford) . Most of the times, the proxies have to be wired into the alarm and are not just plugged in(This is to maintain the shock sensor or glass sensor). It is easiest to wire the proxy into the instant trigger, which is once that field of disturbed, it trigger the alarm to sound off. It can be re-wired to be a warn away option were, the alarm will send a series of warning chirps and if the field is disturbed too many time in a short period of time, the alarm will then be triggered. You can not get the sensor to be 100% perfect, but from my testing, if the sensor is turned down to were it protects roughly 70% of the interior and some one walks by real close or an sticks an arm in, the alarm will chirp but not go off, Hence warning possible offenders away. If someone gets into the jeep, or disturbs the field by try to pull something out of the back, then it will warn first then go off.[addsig]

Thanks for the replies. The shop I'm dealing with has talked me into going with the Alpine alarm which comes with the motion sensor as part of the package. They say it's one of few alarms that actually has the brain of the alarm working together with the proximity sensor which helps to reduce false alarms. If this doesn't work, I'll try getting them to wire it up so it triggers the warn away chirp instead of the actual alarm.[addsig]

Craig-
Did you get you alram installed? How does it work and how much does it cost. I am thinking about putting one in my TJ. Has anyone ever had seatcovers stolen out of the inside or any of the soft windows????? [addsig]

Ya, I have it installed and it's great. I haven't had any problems with it. It's an Alpine 150R. It has an outer and an inner perimeter or you can set up so there's just an inner perimeter. You can adjust almost everything from the remote and you can order an optional pager if you want.[addsig]
