if the key is broken inside the ignition... you should be able to start it like that... if not, get something to push it in further... as far as the linclock... i've heard to use a piece of threaded rod to put in the spiders to secure it incase a weld breaks... and i've heard to use an arc welder with a nickel rod... and just gob that molten metal all over the place in there to make sure of its strength.... i've never done it, nor seen it done... but i've read up on some of it...

have you though to cnverting it to 4wd... it will take the transfercase, linkage, front shaft, and axle... but if you can find a wreck.. it might not be so bad[addsig]

Not too accurate about a datsun column but if you can, remove the plastic around the column, turn the key to on position not run and there will be a float ball under the cylinder, push it up and pull the cylinder out, cheap fix down at napa or the zone.

well on the thought of converting to 4x4, we are gonnna cut all the sheet metal off of it, and run 31" ag tires on it, that are for a tractor :-D , and when it gets stuck we are leavin it :-O [addsig]

Sounds pretty sweet, can't think of any better use for a free rice burner  Have lot's of fun with that thing, you'll be surprised in what it'll do in 2wd with the locked rear end.

For the Lincoln Locker, preheat the diff carrier and spider gears with an acetylene torch. If you don't have one, you can still weld the spiders. A 220 MIG welder is best, just load those spiders up with metal, filling the gaps between the gears completely. Since you are going to leave the truck, go ahead and weld the spiders to the carrier as well. The more metal the better.

Here are a few pics doing a google search. This guy had a shop grind the gears and install a square hunk of steel, but it's overkill for your use. Just weld, weld, weld.

one question... how do you get the C-clips in and out

IF it's a c-clip axle, which many are not, you still have easy access to them after welding the spiders. You just can't weld a plate of steel over all the spiders like done in the pics above.[addsig]

i'm thinking 2 things there...

1. the ring gear and tires will take care of the balance... the welds and extra metal will only be a SMALL factor since its the inside of the centrifugal radius

2. if its built for an offroad only vehicle, it shouldn't really matter too much[addsig]
