Well in the last week I've replaced the Head gasket on my 4.0, Starter, Oil pan, Rear Main seal, Transmission mount, Emissions harness, and exhaust. Damn I hope i'm done for awhile. The rear main seal took about 1 1/2 hrs to do and not very difficult at all, remove the main bearing cap 11/16 socket remove the bottom half from the cap, the use a small punch to drive the upper half out enough to grab with needle nose pliers, install the bottom half in the cap and use some form a gasket on the edges, the cover the upper half in liquid soap and slide into the top and reinstall the main bearing cap. Then install the oil pan and torque converter cover.......Bullet[addsig]

Dingus I think I'm done for awhile......lol My shoulders are killing me from reaching into some abnormal positions just getting at the manifold bolts, I was going to give up and have midas or speedy finish the last 2 bolts on the bottom rear but even they said that they wouldn't touch that job. I love my jeep but what a pain in the A-- it is to work on........Bullet[addsig]

How long did it take you to replace the head gasket? Any tips?[addsig]

Hey Judge, The head gasket took me about 2 days on and off. The simple stuff is probably the most important to pay attention to. Mark all of your plug wires so you remember the firing order easier, mark all vacuum lines for reassembly, remove power steering pump, then take out air cleaner box, remove valve cover, throttle body, fuel rail(remember to bleed first to relieve pressure), I left the fuel injectors on the intake(no need to remove), remove the pan on the intake(cover plate), then remove the intake and exhaust bolts(Bottom back 4 bolts are a pain in the A--), then remove bolts on rockers(remember order for rockers and push rods), unbolt head, remove old gasket.
I then brought the head to a machine shop and had it tested for cracks and warpage. Then reassemble in reverse order using new head gasket, manifold gaskets, tbi gasket, and injector rail seals. The head gasket kit at auto zone was $48. Good luck.....Bullet
PS. Be extremly carful with the exhaust manifold, they are tubular manifolds and very prone to cracking easily.

Lol Tug:lol:, I've been to Tennessee more times than I can count while driving trailers for 16 yrs. Tennessee is beautiful country, I'm glad to help with the postings and appreciate the postings of others in return. Manuals are great to work with but there are always other ways and sometimes better or more economical ways to do things and this message board seems to offer that..............Bullet
