Carbon build up and miss fires

My 92 YJ with a 2.5 is getting a wicked build up of carbon on the plugs and I imagine everything else in the engine too. About every 50 miles I have to clean the plugs other wise it runs like crap. And even after I clean the plugs the engine still has flat spots, misses, and occasionally dies. This is all happening after I got water in the engine(everything from the oil to the intake and cyclinders.) I've been told that it might be the computer for the EFI, but i'm still a little fuzy on how the engine would still run if that was shot. If ya have any insite, I need it, Thanks, Jeeper W.[addsig]

sounds like you might have some bent valves or busted gaskets. Take the Jeep to a machine shop or engine repair shop and have them do a compression test on all of you cylinders. If they all check out, get new plug wires. Otherwise, you're looking at a rebuild. Might as well start looking at V8s.

before recomending a V8, i'll ask what you're using this for...? and what color are the plugs becoming? you also could be running extremely rich and the o2 sensor needs to be replaced...[addsig]

Good point, I took my 89YJ to the dealer ship for some diagnostic tests and they told me that there was a recall for a new O2 sensor.... if you're quick at math, that's a 13 year old recall! I guess the previous owner never took it in. Call the dealership and give them your VIN number and see if there are any outstanding recalls. I got a new O2 sensor installed for free and it solved my problems![addsig]

Does this mean there is no time limit on factory recalls? I don't think there is much on my jeep that is stock, but it's an interesting idea.[addsig]

To answer what color the plugs turn, that would be black. What I use the jeep for is my daily driver and off-road jeep. I'm a college student so it sees a fair share of black top, but more so the dirt, mud, water and rocks. I'll take a look at the o2 sensor, I'm hoping that it's just that. I really can't aford a new engine just yet. Thanks, Jeeper W.[addsig]
