check engine question ?????

Anyone have this problem with check engine light coming on... after you floorboard the engine from a dead stop the check engine light comes on...I can put the trans into neutral and while coasting turn the engine off and restart engine and the light goes off.... otherwise the light comes on when you first start the engine and then goes off as it should... 1998 jeep cherokee XJ with auto and 4.0 engine.

So as long as you dont floorboard the engine everything is ok ? the light coming on is maybe an overspeed warning again ?

See if it's thrown a code:

Turn the ignition key until the digital odometer displays, repeat three times in succession and then back to "On" (On/Off, On/Off, On/Off, On). At the fourth "On" the odometer will be replaced with codes. If no codes are present then "Done" will appear.

If the key dance doesn't produce a code in the odometer take your vehicle to AZ or OReillys ... And have them read the code.

We could give a more direct answer with a code.
