ok i bled the brakes on my jeep, and they worked great.....for about 2 days and then they started softing up again....i was gonna bleed 'em again, but there was this brown crap on my drivers side floor so i bent over and apparently brake fluid has been escaping from the master cylinder some how and running down the firewall, and somehow or another been coming in the cab through the stering cloume in the fire wall, and has eaten all the paint off the inside of my fire wall.....so getting to my question what the hell is wrong.....do i need a new master cylinder, a new seal what??? ooh yeah my brakes were great untill i went on a wheeling expedition, after that....CRAP

if you have power brakes,it sounds like the booster is bad...

but if you have no power brakes it sounds like the master cylinder is bad[addsig]

i dont have power brakes.....the brake fluid has come through the fire wall and is eating away at the paint in my floorboards, even though i keep wiping it up, it seems to leak when it is sitting night, school, ect, so what do i need to do replace the master cyl?

the back of the master will be wet with brake fluid. If it's leaking as bad as you say, it might come pouring out of the back seal.[addsig]

It is the master cylinder leaking, it cost $25, remove the two brake lines on the outside of M/C. Then remove the two bolts holding M/C. Disconnect the brake pedal linkage and remove old M/C. Replace with new, and bleed brakes again.[addsig]
