Dome Lamps

Anyone have an Idea of how to take the Doors off, yet keep the Dome lights turned off. I don't have a Switch to do this. I have heard "remove the Fuse" and "Un-plug the Door switches" but I would like to find some other way of doing this. Any Ideas.

Tape down the switch, remove the bulbs, cut the wires, install a toggle and do away with the door switch, lordy this could go on on on and on but the best way is to remove the fuse or unplug te switch. Hope this helps. Tug[addsig]

LOL I was looking for a better way than even un-plugging the Fuse (breaking Electrical current) I have even bought the Vacume Testing cap kit in hopes that One of the Vacume plugs would hold over the Switch.[addsig]

It takes less than 60 seconds to pull the fuse - fuse # 4 - it seams like the most reasonable way to circumvent the door switches.[addsig]

Install a switch from the fuse, that's what I'm gonna do this week on my TJ. It's just slicing a couple wires and running it to a different place. Really simple.[addsig]

Kind of Scary slicing ANYTHING that is only 4 weeks old. So far the Fuse is my best bet, maybe I can jerry-rig an inline fuse and toggle switch to the Fuse box without cutting into any wiring. or maybe I should just bite the bullet and rip the damn door stitches competly off. ;-) [addsig]

Do what into hunting says..........PULL THE FUSE! He knows what he's talking about. Its behind your glovebox. [addsig]

THERE IS NO NEED TO PULL A FUSE. Here is what you do, and it is even easier than pulling a fuse. Locate the dome light switch... on the other end of the actual spring loaded "button" there are either 1 or 2 wires (depending on the year) with wire connectors going to it. UNPLUG THEM FROM THE SWITCH. Repeat on passengers side, Done.[addsig]

My whole deal was to try and get this done without un-plugging anything. I was hopping for somw kind of Cap for it. The way the Stem for it is shaped, you would think there would be something. But, alas, If I must un-plug the Switches, then so be it. Easy enough.[addsig]

I just took the doors off, and what I do is pull the fuse (99 TJ). It's #4 fuse, a red 10 amp located in the bottom right hand corner looking at it head on. Easy to do, shuts nothing off except the interior lights, and when I was done, just popped it back in. No wires or clips.

Rob :-P 8-) :-) [addsig]

Just unplug the wires this way if you turn them on with the interior switch they still work.[addsig]

what i did im my 99 TJ was steal some of my moms fingernail glue and glue the thing in. worked fine as i can still turn the light on from the headlight switch [addsig]

i simply leave the switches unplugged... if i want light... i can turn it on with the dimmer... it would be just as much trouble to make a device to hold the switch as it would be to unplug the wires, or even just the fuse. its really no inconvenience at all. you have to reach down there either way. The Passanger side isn't a problem to un-plug but the Driver side is a whole different Story. My Dash goes all the way down, about 3 inches above the bottom of the Door. I gotta take basically the Whole dashboard off to get to it. I think I will, actually. Will let me tinker a little more and let me look around.

Just for Everyone out there that wants to put a new Stereo in your 2003 Jeeps, fair warning, They DO NOT use the standard Jeep Wiring harnesses of 2002 and prior. Also, your Ant wire is no longer the Large Male connection, you have to get a connector for that also. Just letting ya know, it took me 4 trips to Circuit City to FINALLY get all the right stuff.[addsig]
