ERROR CODE P0700 help if you have experienced this

I have a 2007 Jeep Compass with 4 wheel drive. It has an automatic transmission. While driving, my car did not shift out of first gear. I had to drive it home in first gear, the tectonic shifting did not work either. Engine light came on, read error code P0700, which reads "transaxle control system fault." If you have experience with what might be going on, I would appreciate any advice that could help. I have had wranglers and worked with them but never came across this issue. I did some quick reading, and it appears that a P0700 is a generic error that says something is wrong with your transmission, and to go to the dealer and get it diagnosed.

Being stuck in first gear is what they call "limp" mode, which is a fail-safe when the computer detects something wrong.

They pulled the code from the transmission and i'm getting p1729. Has anyone experienced an issue with this?
