Food Preparation for long trips?

Can anyone give me some tips with food preparation and dinner ideas when planning a long trip? We are planning a long camping trip this year and it will be our first long trip. We are talking 4 weeks.

What type of camping?
Cabin or RV?
Car camping - drive to site set up tent within 100 ft of car same campsite?
Hiking in- caring gear a mile or two, same campsite?
Backpacking- carry all gear and food not camping in the same area 15-20+ miles apart?

What type of cooking gear? Reg kitchen, mess kit, cast iron ultralight, open fire?
