Some one made a post a while back about the 8.8 rear ends. They said 95 and up. a little stronger, and has disc brakes.[addsig]

Ya, '95+ had rear disc brakes. You can also find them in similar vehicles like the Mercury Mountaineer, Mazda? Navajo, etc. They come with many different gear ratios, so it may be possible to find one with your correct ratio. Some had limited slip differentials, a definite bonus :-D [addsig]

so all 95+ explorers dont have limited slip? and they didnt all have the same gear ratio?if i undrstand you correctly bounty.so i will for sure get the disc brakes and stronger axles, but may not get limited slip and cant be sure of the gear ratio. oh man , i want it allllllllll. ha, i wonder if the vin # would be any help. if i am going to go to the trouble and exspence i want it all.if you know what i mean.

remeber a site where someone did a write up about a swap. will try to find it. i have a case of the duhs today . i guess i need someone to walk me thru step by step.......thanks for the help bounty.........odax :-D :-? [addsig]

I don't think the VIN will help for diff type or gear ratio. You'll have to decipher the diff tags :-O

There may be a code on the diff tag that may indicate a limited slip, maybe an L within the numbers on the tag. Don't know, worth a shot.

i think i'll be buying my 9" with limited slip in the next couple of weeks... I'd like an 8.8 from an explorer so i can use my same wheels... but hey... cheap is good[addsig]
