I have a 1981 cj7 and the fuel gauge stayed on (E) until I noticed that the fuse was bad so I replaced it and now it is stuck on (F). The gas tank and sending unit are brand spanking new. What is the problem?[addsig]

First make sure your wires are connected correctly and not touching one another.



If they are correct it might be the wire between the gauge and the sender.



Disconnect the sender wire at the gauge, turn on power and see if the reading is on "E" If it is, it's your wire or sender.



Reconnect the gauge wire and disconnect the sender wire at the sender to see if it's the wire.



If you disconnect the wire at the sender, turn on the power and it still reads "F", it's the wire.



If it goes to "E" when you disconnect the sender wire it's a bad sender unit, or the sender in the tank installed incorrectly and stuck in the upright, "full" position.



If none of this works, it's late and I wasn't here.
