I've got a model 20 rear...the past owner threw in a one piece axle set and didn't grease the bearings (moron huh?) and well the whole outer end heated up, ground down and i got nothing!...since the bearings are aftermarket and unfindable...i temporarily rebuilt an old narrow m-20 with 2 piece, but a different gear ratio, to be able to take it out for a spin here and there...so no 4 wheel for now...but anyways...to the point i go...i've got a junk cherokee (87) with a good 44 on it...no idea of the gears but i'll figure it out...would this be a good solution? being it's already one piece, a stronger axle, and full width as is the front...and at the same time attempt a spring over since the springs mount on top of this axle anyway?...leaving me only a front spring wrap problem????possible???...highly confused in NY here...help...[addsig]

Go dana 44 rear. Your gearing options for that axel go to a lot

steeper ratio. like 5.89's if you want a mega-crawler. The

44 in the cherokee most likely has a 3.07 ratio with 30 spline

shafts.[addsig]

44 would be better. But you would have to move the perches, in, to line up with your springs. While your doing this you can mount the perches spring over or spring under. Or put outside-of- frame spring hangers on the CJ. As far as the burned up bearings on your original axle, you can find these bearings anywhere, as long as the axle bearing surface is not all chewed up.[addsig]
