Fuel Leak on 93 4 cylinder

I have a big problem with my 93 Wrangler. I have a fuel leak only when the the engine is running that looks like it is coming from the rubber hose that attaches at the fuel tank. One end of the hose attaches to the metal line that goes to the fuel filter. The other end disappears towards the fuel tank. I can see where the hose attaches to the line on one end with a clamp but do not know how to access the other end to replace it. Do I need to drop the tank? Do I go in through the wheel well. I'm at a loss. Please help before I blow myself up.

You need to EMPTY your tank. Follow the hose, there should be a clamp at both ends. Take the old hose with you to get the new one to ensure to get the correct size. As a matter of fact, if THAT one is old and rotted through, chances are you'll need to replace as many along your fuel line as you can find. Good luck.

So empty the tank, but do I have to drop it? If I do have to drop it is the skid plate the only thing holding the tank up? Shouldn't I support it with a jack stand or something?

It could just be the clamp is loose on the hose with the gas running down it; have had that happen to me on several YJs. Crawl up under the driver’s side of the tank. You will need to reach up high towards the top of the tank, feel around until you find the clamp on the hose leaking gas and tighten it up. This will be mostly blind work but it can be done and is a lot easier than dropping the tank.

I would drop the tank to check for 3 reasons; first of all, with the tank near empty, it is a simple job to do (even singlehandedly) as long as you have a floor jack and a socket set. Second, there is no way you will be able to check the connections on top of the tank any other way. And third, it is an easy way to replace any worn hoses, clean the top of the tank (you will not believe the amount of junk that gets up there!) and check that everything is where it should be.

Thanks for all of the help. I ended up taking it to a mechanic and they did have to drop the tank. The hose was cracked and worn so it did have to be replaced.
