Gear changes

A while back I replaced my rear gear set with 4:10s but did not have the cash to do the front as well as the clutch. I am ready to do the front which is stock 3:08, just wondering if I need to match the rear gears as far as brand and type, I know they have to be 4:10s. Also I got a quote from a mechanic here in town to do it for around $800 total including the price for parts and labor. My question is, would I be able to successfully do the replacement myself or is it safer to just have someone do it and pay more $? The only things I have ever had to do mechanically to my Jeep was replace the radiator and the TPS, both of which I replaced myself. Other than that experience, I only have my Hanes manual to help me haha. Just wondering that difficulty involved and if I would be better off leaving this to the pros.

Setting up a ring and pinion is pretty high on the difficulty scale. You have a few specialty tools and it takes a long time. If you are off just a little you'll end up buying another set. Probably be better off paying someone. $800 seems a little high for just the front. I'd call around to some driveline shops and see what kind of prices they have. Most in my neck of the woods charge around $1000 for front and rear.
