why is the distributor from a 250 i6 only from 76-82 said to be used? i just looked at an 83 and 84 distributor and it looks identical to the other years, minus the wire is changed to a single power wire for the cap mounted coil
this guy must not know what he has then. he was told it was an 84 or 85 and he put it in his blazer with a carb and no electrical box. its run like a normal distributor and runs fine, minus its a 6 cylinder in a tank of a vehicle
that is what i thought. as long as i change the cap to a cap that accepts a regular coil, i can run an older style cap with remote coil, right? and the hei module is the small electronic piece where the points would be on an old school distributor?
I'm not sure about that. I would keep the cap and coil. . Just change the module to the old style. The hei only needs power to run. All the wiring and pickup is all internal And the coils are great they put out about 45k volts.
hmm, do you think i could run that tach with a one wire distributor with coil on cap? i guess i would just have to figure out where to connect on those other wires after the connector, it shouldn't be hard at all. let me look for a wiring diagram
The hei has a tach terminal on it. The other hei wires plug into the cap it self. Just cap off the factory wires and run Hot on run and start to the power side of the dist.
ok. i'll pick this up from the guy. he is pulling his chevy 250 and selling the whole engine for 100 bucks so he can put a v8 back in place. he said make offer on the distributor
You could probably find one new or 70 lol. If he wants 50. I would take the who engine for a hundred. Lol. That's my thinking though. Sell the engine for 250 once you get your distributor
thats why i am not bugging him about it. i had considered the whole engine but i have no hoist or stand to be able to hold it to resell.
they are 5oish on ebay used and 90ish new.
its not a drop in replacement part. you have to swap the drive gear, get wires from a ford inline 6 and do something else. i will just keep looking for now.
