its getting cold in az now, i have a 1997 jeep wrangler se, the heater blows hot/warm air. it seems like it can blow alot hotter than this, i have no cooling issues on the engine, no steam coming out of the vents. i think its either clog and in need of a good flush. how do i go about doing this? the coolant looks good and is full, any help would be appreciated thank you.

you can pull the hoses of where they enter the firewall and put your garden hose up to one and run it through each one till you get clear water coming out. i did mine last week and my heat is hot hot hot.

i actually did my whole system though because i put a new waterpump on.

I'm gona do that. I used to not care for the heat cuz I used to drive with no top on and no doors and a couple of layers of jackets on but its been hitting 37 at night here

Ok I flushed it out but went to start it and none of my gauges work. My radio and dome lights don't come on but i have cluster lights and now it don't want to start. It cranks but no start

Figured it out. I blew my iod fuse. Still didn't make sense y it didn't want to start. Then i just keept on cranking it and it started. Still puzzles me

Usually it means a plugged heater core, don't flush it with the water on full force though and do it in both directions, or the thermostat could be stuck open.

Well when I flushed it out it got a lot of gunk off. But went to try it today and not much if a difference. I know its not the thermostat cuz it gets to a point and stop climbing on the temp gauge

This is what the temp reads after awhile. It doesn't go higher or lower than that which leads me to believe that its running temp. Does that look normal?

No that is not at temp. You should be at 210* when at temp. Perhaps your thermostat failed open or the wrong temp thermo is in there. You should have a 195* thermo installed.

Well ill go get that replaced then

It always seemed odd to me but never looked into since it seemd to be cooling good. Never needed the heater till come winter

luis - hopefully you or any PO didn't put the cooler thermo in to "fix" an overheating issue. You'll find out come April or May.

You should note the engine running better with the correct thermo.

The old thermostat was rated at 195. But would imagine it was worn out and open to early. The new one I installed was also rated at 195 and this is were it currently rest. Also cleaned out the coolant sensor

That is where you want to be. And, YES your old thermo likely failed open.

How is your heater now?

The heater is hot now. It's gona keep me nice and comfortable. If the thermo failed to open wouldn't that mean it would have overheated? I think what was going on was the thermo would open to soon.

Not failed to open but failed either staying open or opening with little pressure. If it failed to open or stuck closed yes you would have overheated.

Enjoy the heat!

Well I'm glad to have the heat and having this bug worked out
