HELP!!!93 YJ would not go into gear

Decided to go away from the office for lunch today and jumped into the jeep and fired her up. When I tried to shift into first gear it wouldn't go into gear, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th wouldn't work either. I tried to get it to go into reverse and just got a bunch of grinding. After shutting down the engine and putting it into first gear and restaring with the clutch depressed I was back in buisness. All gears worked well and seems to be back to normal. The jeep is a 93YJ, 4.0L with the dreaded 5 speed Peugeot transmission. Has anyone ever experienced this before? I am worried this is a omen of things to come. Thanks, Frank

You've got the AX15 unless you downgraded and swapped in the Peugeot. Last year for the Peugeot transmission was mid-year '89.

Sounds like a glitch in your clutch slave. Check the clutch fluid and then see if this repeats itself. Doesn't sound like bad synchros in the transmission since you hadn't reported any prior shifting problems and it's working okay now.

The engine was replaced due to the girl friend not looking at the temp gage and fried the engine. The mechanic replaced the transmission along with the engine, guess it made the job easier. These repairs were made before I came into the picture or he wouldn't have gotten away with the transmission switch. There is plenty of fluid in the clutch m/c and the transmission was rebuilt in February 2003.
