Hey guys I was the one with the running the wires from my KC lights from the windshield issue the other day. All of you that replied with tips and advice get a great big thanks. So with the help of you guys I set out to do the mounting and hook up today. I had to tackle one issue first. Two of the torx bolts on my drivers side windsheild bracket are striped. The high painted one and the low round black bolt. So I did the old drill out the bolt and then tried to back it out with an extractor bit. The thing is the bolt wouldn't budge one damn millimeter. I didn't even go for the other bolt (black one) after the failed attempt on the first. So if anyone has any ideas about getting out bolts, especially drilled ones please let me know. Thanks jeepers!!!! 8-) [addsig]

Who ever came up with the trox on Jeeps should be shot. I hate em and every time I back one out i go back with hex head stainless. EZ out is the only way I know but then again some times that does not work either. Drill and retap. Tug[addsig]

when i get in that situation.. i know of 2 solutions...
1... weld a nut onto the stripped bolt, and take it off with a socket
2... if that is a no go... use a drill bit that is the same size as the inside of the bolt thread... drill into the head until it is weak enough to be removed... then there's the shaft of the bolt left, the torque held be the head should be relieved unless it is siezed in there, and chances are, it is... use a smaller bit to drill into the shaft, then try to extract it
3... if you still have no success... drill the entire bolt out, trying to save the thread in the hole... if you can't save the thread, re-tap it for a new bolt

k-phat, i did exactly as snitty says. i used a bit close to the size of the torx bolt and drilled it out. then used a punch , and it didnt take much of a hit to knock it out . luckily i didnt damage the threads. on my yj , the bolts on the front of the frame had a nut behind the hinge and the bolts to the side were threaded in the frame or body. hope this helps........

man i love this forum. jeepz forever. ...........odax 8-) [addsig]

I heated it them with a torch. They came right out. But you would have to repaint the hinge. I was replacing my hinges so it did not matter. Don't force it. The holes where the screws go behind the hinges were so rusted when I force them the treaded hole broke from the frame and just started spinning it place. So with everthing spinning I couldn't even drill them out. I ended up renting a plasma torch and cutting them out. There is no way to fix it properly. So I bought 1/4 toggle anchors and replaced all the torx screws with stainless steel bolts.[addsig]

I did the same thing! I had a "made in taiwan" torx bit which is the one that stripped 2 of my torx, and the bit was all twisted too. I went out and bought a USA one, worked perfect... I used a ratchet to get them out, and a big pry bar on the handle really helps too... as for the stripped ones, I just wanted it done so I put the bracket right over the ones that were stripped... I'll fix it one of these days. You can actually see it in one of the pictures I posted on your first thread.[addsig]

Well I'm setting out to try and get the bolts out again. The thing is I don't really need to get the top bolt out, I can just mount the bracket over it, but the lowere bottom bolt isn't flush with the body, so it has to come out :-x !!!! Thanks for all your tips guys. will let you know how it came out
