L LGR New member Nov 25, 2011 #2 In wranglers they used 4.2 up to 1990 and switched in 91 to the 4.0. If you got a carb its a 4.2. 4.0s had fuel injection.

superj Well-known member Nov 25, 2011 #3 unless its been changed. the numbers on the block are on the driver's side, under hte intake, back by the firewall. my 87 has a 99 block in it
