I've got a line on a 1998 4.0L Wrangler with a manual transmission for 2k. It's said to have transmission problems, and requires a tow to get it home. I'm just wondering how hard it would be to replace the manual transmission in this Jeep. I've never done transmission work, however I have pulled my transfer case and install a SYE. I have air tools and a nice floor jack, but no transmission jack.
I see the local pick-n-pull has a few Cherokees, which I think have the same transmission (AX-15 right?). If the moons line up I could get a junk yard transmission for about $130.
What do you guys think?
