How to get Sirius radio on a 2000 Wrangler??

OK, I have a friend with a 2000 TJ wanting Sirius radio. Is there any way to get an OEM unit to fit on there? Will a 2010 radio unit work? He doesn't want the external unit on his Jeep. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. On a side note, I am currently looking for a TJ myself. I'm hoping to get back into the Jeep world. I miss having a Wrangler in my garage. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm not sure if the Sirius radio was available on a 2000 model as a built in unit. The 2010 factory unit however will NOT work from a factory stand point. The units from 2006 and later are CAN bus communication radios and the 05 and earlier versions are PCI commnications. This means, the radio is turned on by means of communications thru the network and IF one of the modules are not compatible, it wil not work. There might be some aftermarket modules out there that would enable this retrofit but i could be wrong.

OK, that is what I thought. I appreciate the info. you provided. I will probably recommend that he get an aftermarket unit. It will probably be better anyway. Thanks!

you can just buy a RF interupted system. tune the radio to a predetermined station (generally 89.1) and ture on the satalite received and it plays through the radio station.

I installed a new radio with aux input and then got the Sirius onyx. Works really well.

Thank you. That is the route I would take but my friend that is asking for this info is not very tech savy, and really doesn't want another unit in the Jeep that he has to worry about. I think he just wanted a stock looking radio unit with the satellite radio. I've pointed him into the aftermarket route, and he is really looking into it. Thanks for the help gentlemen.
