Jeep bumpers

I'm planning on trashing my bumperettes and gay front chrome bumper. Who here has made their own from scratch? I'm looking for some general ideas/guidelines so I don't run into any problems. A material list would be cool too. The new bumpers will be fairly strong with anchor points on both ends.

I hate the front bumber on my JY as well I plan to build me an Ugly Mutha Pork Chop Bumper. Give er a look see at http://www.uglymutha.com/ This is a no nonsence front with real advantages. I will add a coustom grill gaurd as well. Talked to a fab welder today. 3/16" thinck x 2" x 4" Tube construction. Then make me a reciver hitch style front plate mount. I will send pics as soon as I get it built but the web site gives you an idea. Tug

Here's an easy idea, and what i did. I chopped my bumper to 36" (3 feet) which is about 2 inches wider that the width of the mount holes in the frame (up front). I kept one side stock and cut the other to look exactly like it... only 36" instead of the 54" or whatever it's regular length is. Then I blasted it, sanded it, and painted it with Rustoleum Textured black paint from Wal-mart, 3 coats. Then 3 coats of clear Rustoleum enamel for protection. I also bought black tow hooks, and painted them with extra Rustoleum Black and Clear, like the bumper, and mounted them all up. It looks great.
