Jeep Sentry Key Theft Deterrent System

Hi all, I was contemplating getting a Sentry Key Theft Deterrent System put on the Jeep. I have a question that I've yet to find an answer to.
1. Can a thief hot-wire the vehicle even though you have the Sentry Key Theft Deterrent System installed?
If so, then what's the point of the key??? The only point I could see, is if in case the thief decides to try to insert a blank key into the jeep, trace the edges of the cyllinders, and take it to a hardware store to get it cut, it wouldn't work...

I know nothing of how it works, but what does it cost in comparison to an aftermarket alarm with ignition disable? They have gotten very reasonably priced with all the competition out there.

I believe if they break the column they can start it even with a sentry key
