Jeep V6 Question

I'm trying to verify if a 1973 CJ5 came with a V6. I just got one and it has the V6 emblem under the jeep logo, which of course doesn't mean it's original. Anyone have experience with these old ones? Thanks, JD. The vin is 83050117365310.

No. the 73 should be the 232 straight 6, which later became the 258. your body tub is the same as earlier
5,s so anyone over the years could have swapped tubs from a v6 modle. I think 71 was the last year for the v6.

Thanks for the quick response. I've got to get a transmission and a jeep guy here in GA has one with a x-fer case. Only issue is will the one he has bolt up,to the V6. Pretty sure his came off a 258. Are they universal?

what trans does he have? you need to know what v6 you have. Kaiser era v6 used a buick bellhousing bolt pattern and does not bolt to AMC era trans. if you have a 72 v6 you can use a AMC trans, anything earlier than that, you cant use amc trans. your engine could also be a odd or even fire engine and you will want to know which. if you can post the engine ID number I will it up. 70-75 were blurry years for jeep due to AMC buying Kaiser. Lots of left over and new parts were used during that transition period. so to sum it up, you need to no if you have a AMC era engine or not

if it turns out you have a jeep ( buick) v6, the jeep 151 4cyl engine (I think around 1980) is a buick engine and the trans jeep used on that engine should bolt right up to your buick v6

Thanks. I will get the engine code and post. I'm not really sure of the history on this old Jeep. I will post again this afternoon. I have the trams that came off it, it in about 10 pieces..... I will see what I can fine on it also. Thanks again.
