i am having sort of a wierd problem. in the morning i can't get my ignition to turn off all the way to remove the key. it is fine the rest of the day. it only sticks the first time each day. i have sprayed different cleaners in the key slot. but still sticks and have to keep turning off and on till finally goes into position to remove key.
what i need to know is how to remove the key cilinder. maybe i can clean it. maybe i'll have to replace it. but its super annpying at 4am and i'm not really awake yet as it is. any ideas on cause and removing the key cilinder? thanks..marty:???:

what year? if its got an airbag...take off the steering collum shroud. Then ya want to turn the key right before it starts up, where all the lights and switches go on keep it in that postion now under the cylinder you'll see a small hole prolly about 1/8" round. Get a paperclip or somthing small and stick it in you'll be pushing up a little depressing pin, while yer holding that in yank out the cylinder.

If its a non airbag ya gotta take off the steering wheel and its a whole other project.

oh also, you'll prolly want to replace it..sounds like its a worn out cylinder..one of these times its not going to start and you'll be stuck.

thanks for the info i figured it would be best to just replace the cylinder while its already out. my jeep is an 89 cherokee. does not have air bag in steering. guess i'll have to remove steering wheel to get at cylinder, again thanks..marty

single sided key right? I could send you a PM of how to if you need

The '89 I just bought does the same exact thing...It doesnt do it all the time, just sometimes.. Kinda sucks when the key is stuck in there, I just got ****ed and forced mine to come on back where the key would come out.

This happened to an old car that I had. Turned out that there was a plastic retainer that finally broke off, and caused it to jam. I never ended up fixing it. I just gave the car to my wife's little brother and let him deal with it.
