Lack of traction in stock 09 Wrangler

We have a 2009 Wrangler Unlimited X 4x4. It's never gotten good traction in wet weather in 2 wheel drive. It is trail rated but stock otherwise with 17" wheels. Should I be looking to buy heavier bumpers? Don't plan to do any real off roading, so I need good highway tires. Any imput will be greatly appreciated!

Are the tires in good shape? Right air pressure? What type of tire, mud tires etc?

Bumpers will not improve traction.


Some tires are poor in wet weather, some roads are slick when wet no matter what tire you have. Here there are roads that get slick with little water. I am not sure if it's the oil on the road from autos or the material in the roadway.

Traction tips, tire condition and inflation. Brake ware, if the rears are shot you will likely loose traction. And tour springs and shocks need to be in good shape.
i run bf Goodrich AT KO. That do well on dirt and road.
