Looking for exhausts

Hi all, After many years of dealing with crappy exhaust repairs, I'm going to replace the whole thing, cat included. I've been through too many "it'll kinda fit" pipes to want to peacemeal the bad stuff. Now here's the criteria: not too throaty (daily driven with me on the phone 200+miles per day) fairly inexpensive, and a good fit, ie: pipe to pipe...hangers etc. I want to do from the stock header on a 2.5 to the tailpipe. just looking for some input, thanks.

Take it to an exhaust shop. Ask around and find one where you live that does good work. My friend just had his done in his 90 YJ from manifold back for around 300 bucks. They used a borla muffler and it sounds a little throtier than stock. Ask if they will slip differen't mufflers on so you can choose the one you like the best. [addsig]

Don't know where you live but if you do not get inspected forget the cat so you can add the milage and power. If you do get inspected have a pipe cut and clamped in line in place of the cat so you can drope the pipe and add the cat for inspection and pull it out again after you pass. The power gained and money on fule saved will make the extra work worth it! Tug  [addsig]

if i were you i'd run 1 or 2 straight pipes and glasspacks out the back!and work it around the gas tank! [addsig]

Hey Tug,

yeah Mass. requires it, but wouldnt that raise the interior noise as well? I just need an exhaust that is hassle free, cheap, and quiet (as a jeep can be!)

I like em loud but you can get a nice quite flowmaster and it wont be to bad. You have to really crank the stereo in mine to drown out the motor. Heck I am coming up on 44 years old and I still like it loud! Southern Rock and a Loud Four Banger is the sweetest sound I know. I pull over to phone. :-D tug[addsig]

just hollow the cat out and run stainless steel pipe all the way through, end it before the rear axle with a glasspack... then you have less bends to make. Just point the end off to one side... I did that on my mustang and I plan on doing it with my YJ also.[addsig]

Why use the stock header? Rip that puppy out and put a Borla header in there! Oh wait a minute, you mentioned fairly inexpensive. Well, Forget that idea.

Hey guyz...

Thank you soo much for all of the input! BUT, I really need it to be pretty tame, I work & drive all day ALOT, a good part of my day in on my phone. So unfortunately, glasspacks, cat boring, headers, and southern rock arent realistic items for me...(too bad, I wish it was loud & obnoxious!) But, thanks for the suggestions, I am getting a kick out of reading them...I do however like Jeepr89's post regarding the custom job, I'm looking into that option now... thanks -JP[addsig]
