Loose Clutch fork

I've got an 86 CJ and I am having problems with my clutch fork. With the engine off it will shift through the gears fine but not with the engine running. My fork will not stay on the throw out bearing. I slid the boot off and I can see the inner spring with an inspection mirror and feel it with my finger and it seems to still be connected. The fork seems to be way too loose and moves around to easily. Is there something else I'm missing that keeps the fork tight on the throw out bearing? I am stumped and could really use some advice!!!!

Thanks
Jody

Well, I figured out my problem. After dropping the transmission I found that one of the clips that holds the throw-out bearing on the fork had broken off and had cause something to spin and rub a hole completely through the front bearing cap where the shaft comes through it. Found one online, I'm gonna replace it, the throw-out bearing and I should be up and running.

Have you tried willys overland ? Their site says they are having a clearance . They claim to have a huge inventory and hope that means they've got your part and maybe at discount . Don't know if quadratech sells loose parts but that is a common wear part that is seldom lay replaced since no one usually checks it for wear but finds out when the throw out bearing moves sloppy along the retainer surface . That is actually what causes the fork to break , when the throw out bearing hangs up on the shaft and the fork is forcing it to travel. Had that happen on a Muncie 4 speed a long time ago . Hoping it won't take long to get a replacement . If not , maybe a good machinist can sleeve it back to specs. As long as the bearing can move up and down without binding , that may work . I know personally you would rather have a good replacement . So would I . Hoping willys overland can come through for you .

Thanks for the info from greg92jeepxj, I found a replacement online and it should arrive at my house today, I hope. Gonna try and get it all back together this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks again
Jody
