need help troubleshooting magnetic pickup

Having trouble with wiring connection in my magnetic pick up coil. Also called a camshaft position sensor. Located under the distributor cap below the rotor.
Have a 1998 Grand Cherokee Limited with a 5.2 engine.
Problem is when driving, it would shut off and if I got under the hood and jiggled the wires where the sensor connects to the harness it would start right back up. When this occurred, the dash read out would show all lights except the check engine light and then they would all go out and the low on fuel icon would pop back on. When I jiggled the wires and turn the switch to the on position, the lights would show all including the check engine light. The lights would go out (the low fuel icon would not pop back on), and the Jeep starts.
This no longer works as now the check engine light will not appear and disappear and the low fuel icon keeps showing up.
fuel pump is new - four months old. cannot hear the whirrring sound it usually makes when you turn the switch on. Have checked the pump wires at the tank, and fuses..... Need help/advice.:???:

I would closely inspect the wiring harness you wiggled for any chafing or open circuits that may cause a short.

Thanks for the quick reply. Checking wiring harness for breaks in line but did not find any braeks. Only three wires from harness to pickup connecetion. Any chance the wire could be broke within the insulation?
Wires not hard or cracked; as said before, wiggling them seemed to solve things. Not sure if I should trace wires all the way through the harness to computer. Don't want to compound problems... still checking wires with no results.
Welcome all suggestions on this.
