Hopefully I am in the right section, but I have a question on a 1989 Wrangler I just bought to fix up. It starts and idles fine but when I get to 2500 rpms it starts to break up like its not getting fuel. Its a fuel injected engine. Could this be 02 sensor? Injector? I thought about maybe putting a carb and being done with it but I have a feeling this has got to be something simple I am overlooking.

its a four cylinder, eh? the 6 cylinders came carb'd for that year, is why i ask.

i would start by putting all new vacuum lines on it and going from there. they are probably original lines and cracked all over hte place

Sounds like it could be that pesky fuel filter too. Check your vacuum lines as mentioned but when the fuel filter gets clogged, at higher RPM not enough fuel gets through to feed the demand. This holds true for any sized motor. On a YJ the filter is on the inside of the frame rail, looks like a small inline cylinder.
