New jeep

I just got a jeep CJ7 1981 model. It has an Amc 151. It is completely stock no rust, hard top (never been off), almost every piece of rubber needs replacement. Seals and gaskets leak (engine and trans). As far as old cars go it is in remarkable condition. I want to do a frame off and coat the undercarriage to prevent rust and maybe upgrade brakes and suspension but I would like to keep the engine. Any ideas/advice?

Sounds like a nice buy. Good luck. Can't help you on gaskets or coating.

PICS!!!

if you are keeping the engine, i would keep it all stock then. stock originals in good shape go for more then modded vehicles do in the long run

Your 4banger is a Pontiac designed "Iron Duke". It's a pretty good engine, but prone to oil leaks & carb problems. The carb is a Rochester 2bbl that has a sealed electric choke. If you have starting problems you may want to drill out th rivets on the choke body & adjust it then replace the rivets with screws. All in all I think you can keep the engine & make it a pretty good runner. If you want to soup it up check out Cliffords for all kinds of goodies.

The guy i got the cj from was eccentric to say the least. It has a 4 bbl carb that he blocked 2 barrels off on. he said it used too much gas. I know, a little weird. Does anyone know if it will turn 33's using this 4 cyl?

no idea, it is stock. I do plan on changing the front diff components as they seem to be weak from what i am reading. might as well change the rear.
