Did you check the inputs to the ignition control module? The procedure is outlined in the FSM, which you can occasionally find online in .pdf format.
Thankyou for the help I'll check into that next. Do you know if I could mabe replace the whole system with an after market product to over come the ignition setup?? This jeep is real nice inside but the electrical to the engine has been messed with. I've spent a month repairing the wires and hunting down dead spots. I belive the engine has been replaced. I'm driving an 87 larado right now but it has seen one bad canyon too many. I have owned the beast for 15yrs now and there are too many small problems. Its been jumped at high speeds, its climbed hills I had to crawl up, been twisted like a pretzel, submarined in a river and just been the most incredibal hunting machine. The beast has over 246349 miles. I got her at 50000. most of those miles are off road in Oregon. Man I love that beast, she has never left me stranded even once. Do I sound like a Jeep add?? haha. If you knew all the places and things of this beast you would be overly impressed. She looks abused Too.

I know of no aftermarket setup to get around the Renix ignition system, probably more trouble that it's worth. Best mod you could make is to buy an $80 FSM for that year.
