The other day while I was playin in the snow in 4hi I was like "oh i should put it into 4lo" I knowo that all the wheels have to be movin the same speed and very slowly to go from 4hi to 4lo. So i find a flat clean straight part shift to neutral and pull the tranfer case shifter up through neutral and hit 4low with a awful grinding sound. Later on i could get it into 4low without any problems about 75% of the time. And one time when i was in 4low it popped out somehow! Is there something wrong? Am I doin something wrong? And what can i do to make my transfer case better in my 02'? Oh i have a automatic.[addsig]

when i shift my XJ into 4-low, i always put it in neutral (the transmission) while rolling at a VERY LOW SPEED, then gently pull the lever into position. i've never had a grind doing it that way. also helps to be going on muddy/snowy terrain to help it go in.[addsig]

Your transfer case linkage may need adjusted, since it popped out of 4lo. Could also be that it wasn't completely engaged.[addsig]
