Oil Oil Oil!!!!!!!

Well it seems like my '89 XJ has turned into a giant oil slick.....I was blowing some oil into the airbox, last week I replaced all the PCV crap but it still hasnt fixed it...So there was $107 that did no good...While I had it apart I took the valve cover off, cleaned out the 5lbs of carbon build up in there and took the 2 vents apart and cleaned them, put it all back together and it's still doing it...My frame rail on the left side above the upper spring mount is covered in oil and it's running down the body onto the lower control arm mount and dripping off...Plus the bell housing is covered in oil and the crossmember so it's kinda hard to tell exactly where it's all coming from....Anyone got any ideas on this cause I'm kinda stumped.

Not sure if yours is the same. But on my 97 the oil sending unit by the oil filter went bad and it started spitting oil out pretty bad .Something to look at anyway.

That souds like it could be it^^^, and there might be a filter seal on underneath the new oil filter, I had that happen to me on an old Honda I had. Good luck JOE>

Did you get a good gasket seal on your valve cover when you put it back on?

That 4.0, the rear bolts on the valve cover are a booger to get lined up while keeping the gasket in place.

Do you have good vaccum at the CCV tube (the one at the rear of the valve cover), and did you replace the grommets where it enters the cover?

If you do not have good vaccum, your valve cover needs replacing.

I had a similar problem with my 92 XJ. It has an "O" ring assembly at the dip stick. It went bad at about 150,000 miles. Oil poured out when engine running. Needed a quart every 20 miles. Replaced it and everything is fine. Now at 220,000 miles.
