oil pressure

Hi guys - just recently purchased a 96 cherokee auto with a 4.0

When driving it today saw that the oil pressure was reading extremely low, like around 5 psi. Haven't seen any oil leaking and was wondering if it was just the sending unit or something more serious. Any help on how to diagnosis this would be appreciated.

i would suggest checking the level, and fill to spec. then see if the problem persists. if you burn oil too quickly, then your valve seals could be worn. or it could be a bad connection with the oil pressure sensor...so i really havent helped you at all...so you vets, help him out cause im makin it worse...

Was going to do a full oil change today and probably change the oil sending unit since its only a few bucks anyways. Hoping this helps out the problem.

yeah that oil pressure sensor is located right next to the oil filter itself, really easy to replace with an adjustable wrench in about 4 minutes. if you're still getting low oil pressure....
